Canteen Committee

A College Canteen Committee is a dedicated body, typically comprising faculty and student representatives, responsible for monitoring the hygiene, food quality, pricing, and overall operations of the campus canteen.

It ensures the provision of nutritious food, maintains cleanliness, manages waste, and addresses student/faculty grievances to provide a healthy dining environment.

Key Responsibilities and Functions:

• Quality & Hygiene Control: The committee conducts regular inspections to ensure food is hygienic, nutritious, and safe.
• Menu & Pricing Management: Decides, approves, and reviews the menu items and their prices to ensure they are affordable and diverse.
• Operational Monitoring: Supervises canteen staff, working hours, and ensures the operator holds valid government licenses.
• Waste Management: Implements and monitors waste disposal systems (e.g., green/blue bins for organic/dry waste) and reduces food wastage.
• Feedback & Grievances: Acts on complaints and suggestions from students and staff to improve services.
• Infrastructure Maintenance: Ensures the cleanliness of the dining, cooking, and storage areas.

Composition:

Usually, the committee consists of a Convener/Chairperson, faculty members, and student representatives, allowing for diverse input on food quality and, in some cases, a tenure of roughly three years.
