The College Development Committee (CDC) is a statutory body, often mandated by state university acts (e.g., Maharashtra Public Universities Act, 2016), responsible for the strategic, academic, and infrastructural development of an institution. It prepares comprehensive development plans, approves annual budgets, and acts as a link between management, staff, and stakeholders to ensure quality education and growth.

Key Functions and Responsibilities:

    • Strategic Planning: Formulating comprehensive plans for academic, administrative, and infrastructural growth.
    • Academic Oversight: Determining teaching programs, the annual calendar, and recommending new courses.
    • Financial Management: Preparing and recommending annual financial estimates and budgets to the management.
    • Quality Enhancement: Reviewing IQAC reports, audit reports, and implementing improvements.
    • Infrastructure & Staffing: Planning for infrastructural improvements and addressing staffing patterns or workload issues.
    • Compliance: Ensuring adherence to regulations from bodies like the UGC and local universities.

Composition of the Committee:

The CDC usually includes members from various stakeholders to ensure balanced decision-making:

  • Chairperson of the Management (or representative).
  • Principal/Director of the college (Secretary).
  • Heads of Departments, teachers, and non-teaching staff representatives.
  • Local industry experts, educationalists, and alumni.
  • Student representatives.

Operational Details:

  • Meetings: The committee typically meets at least four times a year to review progress and make recommendations.
  • Term: Members are usually appointed for a five-year term.
